Zentralbibliothek Solothurn (ZBS)

The Zentralbibliothek Solothurn is the central library of the Canton, the City, and the region, of Solothurn. As such, it serves the general public and collects a broad array of documents pertaining to Solothurn. Furthermore, it houses an important part of Solothurn's rich cultural heritage, one of the major historic stocks in Switzerland. We are grateful to the Gesellschaft der Freunde der Zentralbibliothek, the society of friends of our library, for their generous support which enabled us to present a selection of books with e-rara. Most of the books are, literally speaking, unique, in the sense that they are the only known surviving copies, respectively, of Swiss 16th century prints. Among these, a series of printed calenders (Schreibkalender) utilised by the Solothurn statesman and humanist Hans Jakob vom Staal the Elder as a diary between 1572 and 1607, stand out as being of particular interest.
